I. The Present Simple Tense:

 1. Form: To be

 - Affirmative: S + V1 . S + am/is/are

 - Negative: S + do/does + not + V . S + am/is/are + not .

 - Interrogative: Do/Does + S + V .? Am/Is/Are + S .?

 2. Use:

 a. Dieãn taû moät haønh ñoäng hoaëc moät thoùi quen ôû hieän taïi (always, usually, often, sometimes, occasionally, seldom, rarely, every .)

 Ex: I usually go to school in the afternoon.

 b. Dieãn taû moät chaân lí, moät söï thaät luùc naøo cuõng ñuùng.

 Ex: The earth moves around the sun

I. The Present Simple Tense:
 1. Form: To be
 - Affirmative: S + V1. S + am/is/are
 - Negative: S + do/does + not + V.. S + am/is/are + not..
 - Interrogative: Do/Does + S + V.? Am/Is/Are + S .?
 2. Use:
 a. Dieãn taû moät haønh ñoäng hoaëc moät thoùi quen ôû hieän taïi (always, usually, often, sometimes, occasionally, seldom, rarely, every.)
 Ex: I usually go to school in the afternoon.
 b. Dieãn taû moät chaân lí, moät söï thaät luùc naøo cuõng ñuùng.
 Ex: The earth moves around the sun
 3. Ñoái vôùi ngoâi thöù ba soá ít: He, She, It.
 a. Theâm “S” vaøo sau ñoäng töø thöôøng.
 Ex: Lan often gets up early in the morning.
 b. Theâm “ES” vaøo sau caùc ñoäng töø taän cuøng laø: ch, sh, s, x, o, z.
 Ex: He watches a lot of TV on Sundays.
II. The Present Progressive Tense:
 1. Form: 
 - Affirmative: S + am/is/are + V-ing
 - Negative: S + am/is/are + not + V-ing..
 - Interrogative: Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing .?
 2. Use:
 Dieãn taû moät haønh ñoäng ñang xaûy ra trong luùc noùi (now, at the moment, at this time, at present.)
 Ex: - I am looking for the latest newspaper now.
 - They are watching a sport game show at the moment.
 3. Note: 
 Moät soá ñoäng töø khoâng duøng ôû thì Present Progressive, maø chæ duøng ôû thì Present Simple: to be, to want, to need, to have (coù), to know, to understand.
 Ex: - We are tenth-grade students now.
 - I understand the lesson at the moment.
 Put the verbs in parentheses into the correct tense:

 2. Use:
 Dieãn taû moät haønh ñoäng xaûy ra ôû töông lai (tomorrow, in the future, next..), khoâng coù döï ñònh tröôùc.
 Ex: It will rain tomorrow. 
 3. Notes:
 a. Trong caâu nghi vaán, chuùng ta chæ duøng Shall I/Shall We..?
 Ex: Shall we go out for a dinner tonight?
 b. be going + Vo: Dieãn taû moät döï ñònh ôû töông lai.
 Ex: I am going to play volleyball on Sunday.

She is working fof the Central Hospital of Ha Noi. Hoa has got a brother and a sister. Her brother is a student at University too. Her sister is still young. She goes to kindergarten.
B. Tam is twelve years old. She is a student at a secondary school in Hai Phong. She is not living with her family. Her family lives in Nghe An. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a farmer too. Her parents work hard on the farm from morning till evening. Tam has got a sister and two brothers. Her sister is in a primary school. Her brothers are twins. They are all at a technical college.
C. Thao is thirty years old. She is an engineer. She works in a chemical factory in Ho Chi Minh City. Her family is in Nha Trang. Her father is a researcher and her mother is a lawyer. They both work in Nha Trang. Thao is the only child in the family. She hasn’t got any sisters or brothers.

I. Comparative: So saùnh hôn
1. Short adj/ adv	: S1 + V + short adj/adv + ER + than + S2.
 * Tính töø/traïng töø ngaén laø töø coù moät vaàn hay hai vaàn taän cuøng baèng “y”.
fast, cold, thick, lucky, happy .
Ex: - John is stronger than his brother.
	 (John khoeû hôn anh cuûa caäu aáy.)
	 - This athlete runs faster than that one.
 (Vaän ñoäng vieân naøy chaïy nhanh hôn vaän ñoäng vieân kia)
2. Long adj/ adv: S1 + V + more + long adj/adv + than + S2.
 * Tính töø/traïng töø daøi laø töø coù hai vaàn trôû leân.
modern, patient, difficult, fluently, beautifully, 
Ex: - This problem is more difficult than we thought.
	 (Vaán ñeà naøy khoù hôn chuùng ta nghó.)
	 - He speaks English more fluently than his friend.
	 (Anh ta noùi tieáng Anh troâi chaûy hôn baïn cuûa anh ta.)
II. Superlative: So saùnh nhaát
1. Short adj/ adv:	 S + V + the + adj/adv + EST + N
Ex: Yesterday was the hottest day of the year.
	 (Hoâm qua laø ngaøy noùng nhaát trong naêm.)
2. Long adj/ adv:	S + V + the + MOST + adj/adv + N
Ex: She is the most beautiful girl in the class.
	 (Coâ aáy laø coâ gaùi ñeïp nhaát trong lôùp.)
* LÖU YÙ: 
- Ta coù theå duøng the least ñeå chæ möùc ñoä keùm  nhaát.
Ex: This story is the least interesting of all.
 (Ñaây laø caâu chuyeän keùm thuù vò nhaát trong caùc caâu chuyeän.)

 There are lots of hotels in HCM City. You get a wider (wide) choice here than in the other cities of Viet Nam.
