Lesson 1-Getting Started and Listen and Read
A/Aims:
-To help students read and understand the text about the situations which require first-aid.
-To help them know the importance of knowing how to solve the problem in the situations which require first-aid.
B/Objectives:
-By the end of the lesson , students will be able to know what they would do in the situations which require first-aid.
-Main skill: reading
-Other skills: writing, listening, speaking
C/Teaching aids: Text book, posters, pictures, cassette, gap fill chart, drawing
D/Procedure:
1)Check up: 
Check students’ books and notebooks.
2)Warm up: 
*Kim’s Game: Ask students to open the books/P80, look at the things in the picture for 20’. Tell them these things are often used for first-aid. Ask them to try to remember as many of them as possible. Ask them to play in group to write as many things as possible.
Answer key: 
1-emergency room, 2-sterile dressing, 3-medical oil, 4-ice, 5-water pack, 6-alcohol.
*Discussion: Ask students to discuss and write down what they would do in these situations:
-A girl has a burn on her arm: Use cold water/ice to ease the pain.
-A boy has a bad cut on his leg: Use alcohol/medicated oil/sterile dressing.
-A girl has a nose bleed: Use a handkerchief to stop the bleeding/tell her to lie down.
-A boy has a bee sting: Use medicated oil
3)Preteach vocabulary.

4)Pre-reading
*Gap-fill Prediction: Hang the chart with the paragraph on the board:

Lan telephoned Bach Mai Hospital and asked the nurse to send an (5)to Quang Trung school. Lan was asked to keep the student (6).while waiting for the ambulance.”
-Ask students to predict the words in the gaps.
-Call on some students to go to the board and write their words.
5)While- reading
*Have students open their books, listen to the tape while reading the dialogue. Check if the predictions are right or not.
Answer key: 1-fell, 2-concious, 3-cut, 4-bleeding, 5-ambulance, 6-awake.
*Writing
-Ask students to read the dialogue again and select the topics covered in the dialogue (P81)
-Tell students to write their answers on a sheet of paper and hand in after finishing.
-Collect students’ papers and correct.

6)Post-reading
*Role Play:
Have students in turns play the roles to demonstrate the dialogue.
*Write it up: Ask students to write a story using the information from the dialogue. Tell the students to begin like this: 
“Yesterday, there was an emergency at.”
-Monitor and help students with their work.
-Have students find more words for situations which require fisrt-aid.
7)Homework
-Learn by heart the new words 
-Do exercises in the work book: I/P53 (G)
-Prepare the next lesson.

	Tet or Lunar New Year holiday is the most important celebration for Vietnamese people. Tet is a festival which happens in late January or early February. 	Centuries ago in Ancient Greece , a man by the name of Antipater of Sidon compiled a list of what he thought were the seven wonders of the world. The seven included The Hanging Gardens of Babylon in present- day Iraq, The Statue of Zeus in Greece , and the Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt . The Pyramid is theonly wonder you can still see today .
