*Warm up: Matching.
-Ask Ss to match names of disease with right meaning of them.
1-have a cold a đau đầu
2-have the flu bcảm lạnh 
3-have a stomachache c đau răng
4-have a headache d ốm
5-have a toothache e đau dạ dày
6-tobe sick. f cúm.
1.Pre-reading:
a) Pre-teach vocab:
- common (a) thông thường.
- disease / di’zi:z/ (n) bệnh tật 
- million (n) triệu
- to catch (v) mắc bệnh -caught (past) 
- symptom (n) triệu chứng.
- a running nose (n) sổ mũi.
- a slight /slait/ (a) nhẹ.
- fever (n) sốt .
- cough (n) bo (v) ho.
- sneeze /sni:z/ (v) hát xì hơi.-sneezing 
*Check vocab: Matching.
b)Prediction.
-Ask Ss to close their books and predict.
*What are the symptons of th common cold?
-Write on the board.
2-While-reading.
*Ask Ss to open their books and check their prediction by reading the text silently.
Answer key: a running nose,a slight fever,coughing,and sneezing.
*Ask Ss to read the text again and answer the questions.
a) Why do we call the cold ‘common’?
b) What are the symptons of the common cold?
c) Is there a cure for the common cold?
3- Post-reading: Discussion.
-Ask Ss to work in group of 4 and5 and discuss the question: ‘How can you help prevent a cold”
-go around the class help Ss.
-divide the class into 2 teams and go to the board and match.
*Answer key:
1-b 2-d.3-e 4-a 5-c.6-f.
-copy down.
-read chorally and individually.
-carry out.
-close their books and predict.
-read the text and check.
-Read the text silently and answer the questions.
a)Because ever year million of people catch it.
b) a running nose,a slight fever,coughing,sneezing.
c)No,there is not.
d) No,they don’t.
These medicines don’t cure a cold but they relieve the symptons.
e) We can prevent a cold by eating well,doing exercises,keeping fit and staying healthy.
-work in group and discuss.
-group leader write on the poster then speak out.
IV. Consolidation: 1ms
-Let Ss discuss the question to consolidate.
-Call some Ss read new words again.
V.Homework:
*At home:	-Learn new words by heart.
	-Read the text fluently and answer the questions again.
	-Do exercises B5,6 in workbook.
