Lesson 1: A 1, 4 (page 129-130-132)
Aims: practice reading and listening to know about the ten most popular sports in USA.
Objectives: by the end of the lesson, ss will be able to talk about the ten most popular sports which teenagers in the USA like best and know the names of some sports.
Teaching aids: textbook, picture, tape
Procedure
 T’s Activities 
 Ss’ Activities 
Warm up : Kim’s game ( 5’)
T shows a poster with 8 sports on it: football, swimming, skipping, jogging, running, badminton, tennis, fishing.
Asks ss to work in 2 teams.
Ss try to memorize all of them in 30 seconds, and then one by one in each group will come to the board and write as many as possible ( 2minutes)
Remark and lead in new lesson .
Greetings .
Listen and watch carefully.
Come to the board and write the answer.
2.New activities :
Listen and read . 
(1). New words (5’)
Introduce the situation of the lesson and ask Ss to guess the new words
Explain some new words :
+ Skate boarding ( n ) : trượt ván (picture)
+ Roller- skating ( n ) : trượt patan sd giầy có bánh xe ở 4 góc (picture)
+ Roller- blading ( n ) : trượt patan sd giầy có bánh xe nằm dọc ( picture)
+ Baseball ( n ) : bóng chày ( picture)
+ Result ( n ) : kết quả (picture)
+ Surprising ( adj) : ngạc nhiên ( translation)
Have Ss read new words in chorus and individually .
Correct their pronunciation.
Have Ss play a game : Slap the board .
 (2) Pre- questions: (5’)
 -Have Ss discuss in groups about the question : 
 +What sports do you think are the most popular in the USA ?
+ What other sports do you think are also popular?
Call on some groups to give their prediction .
Ask Ss to look at the books and listen to the tape then check their prediction .
Call on some Ss to give the answers .
 (3) Comprehension questions:(8’)
Ask Ss to read the text in silent .
call on some Ss to read the text aloud .
Have Ss answer the question :
+ What is the most popular sport in the USA ?
+ Which sport is at 11th position ?
Have Ss work in pairs asking and answering the questions .
Call on some pairs to practice in front of the class.
B) Read . Then answer the questions (15’)
Ask Ss to look at the picture and answer the question: what kind of sports in the picture ?
 What is WFF? WTS?
Call on some Ss to answer .
Ask Ss to read the text and check the answer.
Ask Ss to read the text in silent .
Call on some Ss to read the text aloud.
Correct the pronunciation .
Have Ss work in pairs to ask and answer the questions .
Call on some pairs to practice in front of the class .
Correct the mistakes and give the correct answers .
He takes part in WFF.
His school team won the first prize , they were so happy and wanted to keep this activity .
One activity is a 5 walk to the beach on Sunday morning , and the other is walk- to – school day 
It’s 5 km from school to the beach .
Wednesday is the WTS day .
Members living near school often take part in the WTS day .
Ask Ss to copy down .

Have Ss work in groups asking their classmates what sport they like most .
Call on some groups to practice in front of the class .
Ask Ss to write the number of students who like each sport best , then complete the table in the notebooks .
Ask Ss to answer the question : What sport is the most popular in the class ?
3). Home work:
 - Learn by heart the new words.
 - Write what sports you like best .
