I asked what she wanted * When there is is no question words ( what where, why) we use “If” or “Whether” to introduce a reported question *In reported questions, the word order is the same as in statements ( eg: they were doing, my brother was) and we do not use a question word Ex: How is your brother? She asked how my brother was. I. Reported speech - Have ss work in pairs to do LF 3 on page 39 Set the scene: “ Lan’s father held a party to celebrate his mother’s birthday. Unfortunately, Mrs Thu, her grandmother, has a hearing proplem and she couldn’t hear what people were saying. After the party, Lan reported everything to her grandmother” Eg: I’m happy to see you Aunt Xuan said she was happy to see you. -Call on some pairs to call out their sentences ( one with direct speech and the other with reported speech) Give feed back and correct a. When she arrived home, she told her mother about the interview” Ex1: S1: Do you like pop music? S2: She asked me if/ Whether I liked pop music Ex2: S1: Where do you live? S2: She asked me where I lived -Call on some pairs to practice before the class -Give feedback and correct -Lucky numbers: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 -Tell ss that each number is for a question but 4 of them are lucky numbers. For a lucky number, student will get 2 points without answering any questions. For other number, ss have to turn the direct speech to the reported speech. They can join an English pronunciation class or practice speaking and listening to English native speakers as much as possible. Watching Tv programs in English is also a good way of improving your pronunciation. The best way to improve your pronunciation is to learn English in an English speaking country where you can learn the language as well as its culture. Decide if these statements are True (T) or False (F): Adult students find it easy to change the way they speak. Children have less difficulties in pronunciation than adult students. Speaking and listening to English native speakers can help them improve their pronunciation. Watching TV programs in English is the only way to improve your pronunciation.
