Period 49: PART B 3, 4, 5 – AT THE POST OFFICE

 I. Aims and Objectives:

 Language content:

- To help the students continue practising structures used in the post office.

- To enable the structure polite requests, asking the price when using services in the post office.

- To help them drill polite requests, asking & answering about the price of something.

 Language function:

- To help the students practice listening comprehension and write the price of some stationeries and base on this to help the students be familiar with the listening test with numbers of the price.

 Educational aim:

- To help the students develop skills, especially listening and speaking skills.

 II. Language:

 1. Vocabulary: postcards, writing pads, sell, apart from. . .

 I. Aims and Objectives:
 Language content:
To help the students continue practising structures used in the post office.
To enable the structure polite requests, asking the price when using services in the post office.
To help them drill polite requests, asking & answering about the price of something.
 Language function:
To help the students practice listening comprehension and write the price of some stationeries and base on this to help the students be familiar with the listening test with numbers of the price. 
 Educational aim:
- To help the students develop skills, especially listening and speaking skills.
 II. Language:
 1. Vocabulary: postcards, writing pads, sell, apart from. . .
 2. Structure: 	+ I need some envelopes.
	+ I like to buy a phone card.
 	 	+ I’d like some stamps for overseas mail.
	 	+ I’d like to send this letter to the US.
 3. Skills: Integrated skills. 
 III. Teacher and students’ preparation:
 1. Method: Communicative approach
 2. Techniques: Repetition, Ask and answer, using picture.
 3. Materials needed: Textbook, picture, and cassette.
 4. Students’ preparation: Homework, new lesson, teaching aids.
 IV. Procedure in class:
 1. Stabilization: (3ms)
 a. Warm – up: Makes greetings (Good morning, class./ How are you?)
 b. Checking absence: Asks the monitor: Who is absent today?
 2. Checking – up previous knowledge: (5ms)
Has two students go to the board and complete the open dialogue between Hoa and the clerk on page 84 
Student 1 as Hoa; Student 2 as the Clerk.

1.Lead in: 
Has them look at the picture part 3 page 84. You will hear a conversation between Hoa and a post office clerk but there is some unfinished information. Now you read and complete the conversation.
2.Pre-practice:
Lets them read and complete the unfinished dialogue to themselves.
Lets them compare with their partners.
3.Controlled-practice:
Has some pairs read aloud their dialogue after finishing the dialogue.
Makes any necessary corrections.
Calls on some pairs to role play their dialogues.
Gives out the key and explains some new words.
Postcards (n) ( real thing )

4. Free practice:
Has them base on the words in the box page 84 to build up similar dialogues in pairs, alternating roles.
Calls on some pairs to role play their dialogues then corrects the mistakes if necessary.
5. Consolidation:
 Recalls structures and key words relating to services in the post office.
	1 Lead in: 
Lets the students look at pictures 4 page 85 and introduces the situation to them.
Has them name stationeries in English (pen, envelope, stamps writing pads, phone card)
Has them guess the price things just mentioned.
These are the tings which Mrs. Robinson will buy. Now you listen and say the cost of each item as well as the total cost of all the things.
Pre-practice: 
Has them listen to the tape once.
Lets them listen again and find the price of each item.
Plays the tape again for students to check the answers.
Controlled-practice: 
Have them calculate the total cost and the change.
Has them compare the answer with a partner.
Calls on some students to give the answers and others give remarks and add something if necessary.
Corrects the mistakes when necessary.
Gives out the key.
Free-practice:
Has them listen to the tape again and go to the board to write down the price of things they heard as many as possible.
Consolidation: 
Lets them listen to the last time to check the key and explains new phrase.
1. Lead in: 
We have just learnt part 4 and now in order to help you know how to supply things in real life, let’s study part 5.
2. Pre-practice: 
Lets them look at ex 5 ( page 85)
Has them ask and answer the questions in pairs.
Asks the questions and lets them give the answers.
3. Controlled -practice
Has them work in pairs to ask and answer the questions in the textbook.
Lets them give the answers in front of the class.
Calls on some pairs to ask and answer the questions.
4. Free-practice: 
Has them answer the questions to consolidate the lesson:
How much is it to send a letter to The USSR?
What does the post office sell apart from stamps?
5. Consolidation:
Recalls the structure asking and answering the price of something.
Look at it
Listen to the introduction done by the teacher.
Work individually.
Compare the dialogue with partners.
Work in pairs in front of the class.
Listen and check if there is mistakes.
Some pairs role play the dialogue.
Copy them before doing the exercise.
Make similar dialogues in pairs, and change the roles.
Practice the new dialogues in front of the class.

Mrs. Robinson goes to a stationery store and buys a packet of envelopes at 2000 dong and a pen at 1,500 dong. She also buys a writing pad at 3,000 dong. Then she goes to the post office and buys five stamps at 500 each and a 50,000 dong phone card. Add up how much Mrs. Robinson
 spends altogether.
Key:
it is about fifteen thousand dong.
Many things relating to post office services such as envelopes, table telephones, mobile phones, writing pads.
 V. Homework: (2ms) Has the Ss do the following things.
+ Write the lesson in the notebooks
+ write 5 sentences about the price of some services and stationery that you’ve known.
