OBJECTIVES: Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Talk about favorite activities in free time. - Introduce people and respond to introductions. II. PREPARATIONS: Textbook, cassette tape III. PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. Warm – Up: (5’) - Chat with students: Ask students to look at the four pictures on page 10 and talk about the activities they want to do after school or in their free time. (play soccer / read books / play chess / play volleyball) - Ask questions 1. What are these students doing? 2. What time of the day do you think it is? 3. Do you play soccer (after school)? 4. When do you play soccer? 5. Who do you like to play with? - Have students work in pairs to ask and answer about the pictures. 2. Presentation: (10’) - Introduce the lesson”Hoa is talking to Lan about Nien, her next-neighbor in Hue” - Ask some questions about Nien. 1. Where does Nien live? 2. How old is she? 3. Is she Hoa’s classmate? 4. Is she beautiful? - Get feedback. - Explain new words: 1. Seem (v) She seems beautiful. 2. Next-door neighbor 3. Look like (v) What does she look like? = What’s she like? 4. enough (adv) She wasn’t old enough to be in my class. - Explain grammar: tobe + adj + enough + to-inf Ex: She wasn’t old enough to be in my class. 3. Practice: (15’) - Play the tape for students. - Ask students to read the dialogue to recheck the pre-reading questions. 1. She lives in Hue. 2. She is twelve. 3. No, she isn’t. 4. Yes, she is. - Have students practice the dialogue in pairs. - Ask students to answer the questions: a. She lives in Hue. b. No, she doesn’t. c. The sentence “She wasn’t old enough to be in my class’ d. She’s going to visit Hoa at Christmas. - Call some students to ask and answer the questions. 4. Production: (13’) - Have students practice the structures: A. “What does look like?” 1. Thu / young 2. Mr. Long / fat 3. Nam / short 4. Mrs. Nga / old B. “Be (not) + adj + enough to + V-inf” 1.
