Procedure : stages Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm up @ Revision of adjectives -Have Ss review adjectives -Get Ss to make sentences -The first student has to use the adjective beginning with the letter A. The second student has to use the adjective beginning with the letter B. the third student with C...... -Go on until the last S with the adjective beginning the letter Y. -Make sentences using the structure I have + a/an adjective + friend S1:I have an active friend S2: I have a beautiful friend S3: I have a clever friend S4: I have a dirty friend ............................... Pre speaking @ Pre - teach Vocabulary .Contest (English speaking Contest ) (n): .Take part in (v): participate .Charity program/activities (n): voluntary actions given to people in need or distress. Lßng tõ thiÖn, héi tõ thiÖn .Activist (n): people who activity take part in social work ngêi ho¹t ®éng tÝch cùc .Nominate (v): appoint ghi danh, mÖnh danh @ Checking vocabulary: "What and Where" -Write the words over the board put one word in each circle Charity Well - done Effective Activist Nomination -Have Ss repeat the words in chorus then rub out word but leave the circle -Go on until the circles are empty. -Get Ss to rewrite the words in their correct circle. @ Model sentences -Set the scene: “ Trang has just won the first price in the English speaking contest. What does Mai say to pay Trang a compliment? And what does Trang respond?” -Ask Ss how to give and respond to compliments Note: depend on Ss’ level, Teacher are suggested to introduce more structure to give and respond to a compliment -Listen and write down on their note books -Listen to what the teacher guides -Play as the teacher guides Mai: Well done, Trang Trang: thanks. Give a compliment: Well done That is a great..... That is an excellent. Congratulations on..... Let me congratulate you on..... Respond to a compliment. Thanks/thanks a lot It’s very nice/kind of you to say so That’s very kind of you. While speaking -Have Ss to work in pairs, read the situations in the book and then give and respond to appropriate compliments -Call on some pairs to practice the dialogue before class. -Feedback and give correct answers -Work in pairs b) S1: Mother: Well done, Huyen Huyen: thanks, Mom c) Friends: Congratulations on your nomination, Tuan Tuan: thanks a lot d) You: That’s excellent drawing, Hoa Hoa: That’s very nice of you to say so Post speaking -Divide Ss into 4 teams: A, B, C, and D -Have Ss work in groups to think of situations which they can give compliments -Ask team A to give the situation team B, C, and D to make up the dialogue. -Give good marks for the teams which give good situations and make up suitable dialogue. -Listen to what the teacher says -Do as the teacher guides. Group 1: Tam has just passed the graduation examination. Group 2: congratulation Group 3: Well done Group 4: thanks. Homework -Ask Ss to write some situations with the compliments.
