Aim: Reading the text for details about making a meal.
Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand how to make a meal.

* Revision: Brainstorming
- Let ss think of the kinds of food that they’ve learnt.
- Ask ss to go to the board and write the words about food as many as they can.
* Chatting
- Ask ss some questions:
+ Can you cook? Are you good at cooking?
+ Do you often cook meals?
+ What dishes can you cook?

I. Pre teach vocabulary
- bowl (n): cái bát
	(visual)
- dish (n): món ăn
	(example)
- soy sauce (n): nước xì dầu
	(visual)
- slice (v): thái thành lát mỏng
	(picture)
- stir-fry (v): xào
	(explanation: cook the vegetable, meat by frying them for a short 	time in very hot oil while stirring them)
- add (v): cho thêm, bổ sung
	(translation)
* Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember
- Rub out the new words one at a time.
- Ask ss to repeat the words before and after T rubs out the words.
- When all the English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get ss to call out the English words.
- Get ss to come to the board and write the English words again.
II. Ordering statements
- Set the scene: Use the pictures in the textbook to set the scene by asking ss some questions.
+ Who are they? 
-> They are Hoa and her aunt.
+ Do you remember where they went yesterday? 
-> They went to the market.
+ What did they buy? 
-> Some beef, spinach, cucumbers and oranges.
+ What are they doing now? 
-> They are cooking.
- Give ss 8 statements.
a. First, she sliced the beef.
b. After that, she stir-fried the beef and the vegetables.
c. Next, she sliced some green peppers and onions.
d. Hoa’s aunt cooked dinner.
e. Finally, she sliced the cucumbers and made cucumber salad.
f. Then, she cooked some rice and boiled some spinach.
g. Hoa set the table and the family sat down to eat.
h. She added a little salt to the spinach.
- Have ss read the statements carefully and work in pairs to predict their order.
- Give feedback.

I. Reading and checking prediction
- Get ss to read the text on page 116 and check their order.
- Give feedback and correct.

- Let ss read the statements in correct order again.
II. Answer the question
- Have ss read the text again and answer the question on page 116: What did Hoa, her aunt and uncle have for dinner?
- Ask ss to work in groups and write the menu (the things Hoa, her aunt and uncle had for dinner)
- Get ss to go to the board and write their answers.
- Give feedback and correct.
* Answer keys:
Hoa, her aunt and uncle had rice, boiled spinach, beef stir-fried with green peppers and onions, and cucumber salad for dinner.
The menu:

III. Add the missing words
- Have ss work in pairs to discuss and complete the instructions by adding the missing verbs.
- Give feedback and correct.

3. Heat the pan.
4. Stir-fry the beef.
5. Add some soy sauce to the dish.
6. Cook rice.
7. Add salt to the spinach.
IV. Matching
- Show the pictures (page 117) on the board.
- Set the scene by asking ss some questions.
+ How many pictures are there? - 7 pictures.
+ Who is the woman in the pictures? - Hoa’s aunt.
+ What is she doing? - Preparing for dinner.
+ What is she doing in the picture c? - Slicing the beef.
- Let ss work in pairs to match the instructions to the pictures then compare their answers.
- Give feedback.

* Chain game
- Get ss to use the kinds of food in “Revision” to play.
- Have ss work in groups of four to answer the question “What did you eat for breakfast / lunch / dinner yesterday?”.
Example:

S2: For breakfast, I ate some noodles and some bread.
S3: 
Note: One row plays with “for breakfast”.
	Another plays with “for lunch”.
