Lesson 5: SKILLS 1
I. OBJECTIVES: 
 1. Knowledge: 
By the end of the lesson, students can:
 - Develop reading skill about a famous school.
 - Develop speaking skill: Talking about one’s school
	 2. Competence: 
 - Develop communication skills and creativity
 - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork
 - Develop presentation skill

III. PROCEDURES: 
Activity 1: Warm up (5’)
Goal
To attract students’ attention to the lesson and lead in the lesson 
To enhance students’ skill of cooperating with team mates
Input
* Game: Who is faster?
Outcome
Possible answers:
School playground
School gym
Computer room
School library
Music room
Swimming pool
Procedure
- Teacher divides ss into 2 teams
- Members from each team take turn to the board to write the correct the school facilities under the poster
- The team with more correct answer will be the winner
- Students play the game in team mode
- Teacher confirm the answer and give feedback
- Teacher introduces the lesson
Activity 2: Teaching new words (5’)
Goal
Students can know some vocabulary words related to the reading.
Input

Outcome

Procedure
- Teacher uses different techniques to teach vocabulary (situation, example, explaination, realia)
- Follow the steps of teaching vocabulary
- Repeat chorally and individually
- Read and understand the meaning of the words
- Copy all the words
* Checking vocab: 
(asks ss to match the words with these pictures)
Activity 3: Pre reading (5’)
Goal
- Help students understand and activate their knowledge of the topic.

Task 1: Look at the pictures and answer the questions (p66)
1. What can you see in the picture ? 
2. What do you know about them?
Outcome

Procedure 
- Teacher asks sts to work in pairs, look at the pictures and answer the questions. Encourage them to focus on the details/ ideas of the photos (color of the buildings, locations, suroundings,)
- Students answer the questions
- Teacher gives feedback
Activity 4: While reading (12’)
Goal
To develop reading skill for specific information
Input
Task 2. Read the passage and answer questions:
(Qs in textbook)
Task 3. Read the passage again and complete the table. Then report it to the class
Outcome
Task 2
 Answers:
1. It’s in Hue 
2. They were Nguyen Tat Thanh (HCM), Vo Nguyen Giap, Xuan Dieu
3. They were intelligient and hard-working
4. It has two English labs
Task 3.
Procedure 
Task 2.Read the passage and answer questions:
- Teacher asks students to read the text again and answer the questions.
- Students answer the questions
- Teacher gives feedback
Task 3. Read the passage again and complete the table. Then report it to the class
- Teacher can set a longer time limit for student to read the text again, teacher asks student to look at the table to understand what information they have to find in the text
- Ss work in individuals to fill the table
- Ss compare with their partners
- Teacher gives feedback
Activity 5: Pre & While -speaking) (10’)
Goal
To help student form the ideas for their speaking
Input
Task 4 :Work in pair. Answer the questions with the information in the table (p66)
Outcome
Procedure 
- Teacher has ss read the intruction to identify how to do the task, then teacher asks student to look at the table to understand what information they are going to discuss
- Teacher models this activity with a student 
- Teacher asks students to work in groups: discuss and give their ideas 
Activity 6: Post-speaking(5’)
Goal
To help student use what they practice to give a long talk about their school

Procedure 
- Teacher calls some groups to present in front of the class. 
- Teacher comments on their performance
* Homework (3’)
Goal
Review the lesson and prepare for the next lesson.
Input
Review the lesson and prepare for the next lesson (Unit 6: skill 2)
Outcome
- Rewrite the question and answer 2 into notebooks
- Practice talking about your school
- The next lesson: Unit 6: skill 2
Procedure 
- Teacher reminds Students to do homework and prepare the new lesson
