- The past simple tense

Ordinary verb

To be

(?) Was/Were + S + .. ?
 Yes, S + was/were.
 No, S + was/were + not.
 ( was not = wasn’t; were not = weren’t )
Use:
To talk about events or actions which happened completely in the past
Verbs in past simple tense have two kinds:
a. Regular verbs: V-ed
E.g. 
- visit → visited
- talk → talked
b. Irregular vebs:
E.g.
- do → did
- take → took
- go → went
- be → was/ were. (am/is -> was)
 (are -> were)
- buy → bought
- have → had
