I. The simple past
1. Form: 
* Be = was/ were
* Verb

2. The use: To express what happened in a certain time in the past.

- Thông thường ta chỉ việc thêm ''ed'' sau động từ
 Eg: want _ wanted
- Nếu động từ kết thúc bằng ''e'', ta chỉ việc thêm ''d'' sau động từ
 Eg: decide _ decided
- Nếu động từ kết thúc bằng một phụ âm mà trước nó là một nguyên âm, ta phải gấp đôi phụ âm đó lên trước khi thêm ''ed''
 Eg: fit _ fitted
- Nếu động từ kết thúc bằng ''y'' ta chuyển ''y'' 
_ ''i'' rồi thêm ''ed''
 Eg: study => studied
