Period 40. A student’s work (A2)

I. Objectives:

1. Knowledge:

- Ss will able know about American students’ work.

- Vocabulary: to celebrate, to spend time with, public holiday, turkey, firework display.

+ Vocation: Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

- Grammar: simple future tense, comparative and superlative.

- read and answer questions about a letter.

- talk about different things of Hoa’s study and Tim’s study.

2. Skills:

- reading comprehension.

- listen to get information.

I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge:
- Ss will able know about American students’ work.
- Vocabulary: to celebrate, to spend time with, public holiday, turkey, firework display...
+ Vocation: Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas...
- Grammar: simple future tense, comparative and superlative.
- read and answer questions about a letter.
- talk about different things of Hoa’s study and Tim’s study.
2. Skills:
- reading comprehension.
- listen to get information.

- Textbook, mini laptop, loud speaker
III. Procedure:

Pre- reading:
- ask Ss to look at the picture in section A2 on page 73 to guess: In your opinion, what is the letter about?
While- reading:
- ask Ss to read the letter 1st time to compare with their predications.
- ask Ss to read the letter aloud in front of class.
- explain some difficult words and phrases.
- ask Ss to answer question in section “Now answer”.
- ask Ss to compare their work with partner.
- give feedback and correct.
- give the correct answer:
Summer vocation is the longest in American.
During his vocation, Tim spends time with his family.
Vietnamese students have fewer vocations than American students.
- ask Ss to give the date of these celebrations which appeared in this letter.
- ask Ss to read the letter again and stop at each sentence to explain some words and phrases:
a few: một vài (đi với danh từ đếm được)
fewer: ít hơn (dùng để so sánh các danh từ đếm được)
more: nhiều hơn (dùng để so sánh danh từ đếm được và danh từ không đếm được
Easter: Lễ phục sinh
Thanksgiving: Lễ tạ ơn
4th of July: ngày quốc khánh nước Mỹ.
- ask some students to translate the letter into Vietnamese.
Post- reading:
- ask Ss to practice in pairs to talk about their vocations.
- ask some pairs to present in front of class.

I. Objective:
1. Knowledge:
- Ss will able to remember name of some important celebrations.
- read the text about Hoa and answer questions from a- d.
- Vocabulary: easy life, hard, typical, keen on, to review, definitely, lazy, take a look at...
- Grammar: the simple present tense to talk about daily activities, comparative adjectives.
- read the text fluently.
- talk about student’s work.
2. Skills:
- reading comprehension.
- listening skill.
II. Preparation:
- textbook, mini laptop, projector...
III. Procedures:
1. Oraganization:
- checking attendants

Activity 1. Listening stage (A3)
Pre- listening:
- present new lesson: In the last lesson, you learned about American celebrations and today you will study further about them.
- ask Ss to look at picture in section A3 on page 74 and give predications what pictures about.
While- listening:
- play the tape 2 or three time and ask Ss to do this task.
- ask Ss to compare their work with partner.
- ask Ss to read the answer aloud in front of class.
- give feedback and correct.

- ask Ss some questions to present new lesson.

While- reading:
- ask Ss to read the text once time to give the main point of this text.
- review some structures:
fewer... than...: ít hơn
more... than...: nhiều hơn
- ask Ss to read the text 2nd time to answer questions about this text. 
- ask Ss to guess meaning of words based on the situation of this text.
- ask Ss to compare their work with partner.
- ask Ss to read their text in front of class.
- give feedback and correct.

People thinhks students have an easy life because they only work a few hours a day and have long vacations.
Hoa works 20 hours a week. It is fewer than most workers’ work.
