- Những động từ tận cùng là “e” bỏ “e” thêm “ing”.

- Những động từ tận cùng là “y” giử nguyên thêm “ing”.

- Những động từ tận cùng là 1 phụ âm mà trước nó là một nguyên âm:
+ Đối với những động từ 1 vần : gấp đôi phụ âm cuối trước khi thêm “ing”. 
Ex: running; getting; . . . 
+ Đối với những động từ từ 2 vần trở lên, nếu dấu nhấn chính rơi vào âm cuối cùng, gấp đôi phụ âm cuối trước khi thêm “ing”.
Ex: beginning; controlling; . . .
+ Đối với những động từ từ 2 vần trở lên, nếu dấu nhấn chính rơi vào âm đầu tiên, giử nguyên thêm “ing”.

- Những động từ tận cùng là “ie” đổi “ie” thành “y” trước khi thêm “ing”.

- Những động từ tận cùng là “ee” giử nguyên thêm “ing”.
