LET’S EAT The 75th period: B1 Aim: Listening for specific information to understand why Ba had to go to the doctor’s. Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know more about the reason why Ba had to go to the doctor’s. Teaching aids: Text books, pictures. Procedure Stage Steps/Activities Work arrangements Warm up (8’) Mime - Prepare 5 pieces of paper with feeling written on it. + cold + hot + headache + toothace + stomachache - Let one student select a piece of paper and mime the feeling in front of the class and ask “What’s the matter with me?” T - whole class Pre listening (10’) I. Pre teach vocabulary - dirt (n): bụi bẩn/ bụi đất (realia) - dirty (adj): dơ bẩn (T asks ss give the adjective of “dirt”) - terrible (adj): khủng khiếp, tồi tệ (synonym: awful) - soup (n): súp/ canh/ cháo (visual) - medicine (n): thuốc uống (situation) * Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember - Rub out the new words one at a time. - Ask ss to repeat the words before and after T rubs out the words. - When all the English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get ss to call out the English words. - Get ss to come to the board and write the English words again. II. True - False statements - Ask ss to close the books. - Set the scene: Have ss look at the picture (p.119) and answer some questions. + Do you remember Ba? - Yes. + Where is he now? - He is in the doctor’s. + Can you guess what is wrong with him? - He has a stomachache. + What causes his stomachache? - Give 5 statements: 1. Ba had an awful stomachache. 2. Ba ate some spinach last night. 3. His mother didn't wash the spinach well. 4. The doctor advised him not to eat spinach any more. 5. The doctor gave him some medicine. - Ask ss to read the statements and work in pairs to guess which is true, which is false. - Give feedback. Listening and checking - Ask ss to listen to the dialogue twice and check their prediction. - Give feedback. * Answer keys: 1T 2T 3F 4F 5T II. Comprehension questions * Spin wheel - Write 6 numbers, each number is for a question. - Have ss choose the numbers and answer the questions. If their answer is right, that team can spin the wheel to get the scores on the wheel. If it is wrong, the other team will answer and get the scores for their answer. Questions: 1. Why did Ba have to go to the doctor’s? -> Because he was sick / had a stomachache. 2. Did Ba’s Mom and Dad feel sick? -> No, they didn’t. 3. What did Ba eat last night? -> He ate fish, rice, soup and spinach. 4. Did Ba or his Mom wash the spinach? -> Ba washed the spinach. 5. What caused Ba’s stomachache? -> The dirt on the vegetables. 6. What did the doctor do to make Ba feel better? -> The doctor gave Ba some medicine. T - whole class Team work Post listening (10’) Complete the story - Have ss read the passage to complete the story on page 119. - Ask them to compare with their partners. - Call on some good ss to retell the story. - Give feedback. * Answer keys: Ba went to the (1) doctor’s because he was (2) sick/ill.
