Procedure Stage Steps/Activities Work arrangements Warm up (5’) Guessing game - Ask ss to take a piece of paper and write a sentence using past simple tense to talk about what they did last night and keep it secret. - Get ss to ask Yes - No questions to guess the teacher’s sentence. Eg: I listened to music last night. + Did you watch TV last night? (No) + Did you read books last night? (No) + Did you listen to music last night? (Yes) - Call the student who has the correct guess to the front of the class and the game continue. Did + S + Vinfinitive ? - Yes, S + did./ No, S + didn’t. * Use : It is used to express an action that happened in the past. * Adv of time: yesterday, ago, last + time in the past, Answer the questions - T uses the pictures on page 123 as cues for the questions. - T shows the first pictures and models the sentence. - Call on some pairs of ss to practice the rest. - Have ss work in closed pairs. - Monitor and correct. * Answer keys: a) Did you do your homework last night? -> No, I didn’t. I watched TV. b) Did you eat dinner at home on Wednesday? -> No, I didn’t. I had dinner in a restaurant. c) Did you go to school yesterday? -> No, I didn’t. I went to the movie theater. d) Did you watch a video on the weekend? -> No, I didn’t. I read books. e) Did you play basketball yesterday? -> No, I didn’t. I played soccer. Indefinite quantifiers - Have ss review the indefinite quantifiers by matching the correct expressions to the picture. - Give feedback. * Answer keys: A) a little coffee. B) a lot of/lots of tea. C) a little sugar. D) a lot of/lots of salt. E) too much coffee. Gap filling - Get ss to complete the dialogues using the correct indefinite quantifiers, cues from the pictures on page 125. * Answer keys: A) Mrs Quyen: Lan, add some salt to the vegetables, please. Lan: A lot or a little? Mrs Quyen: Only a little, I think. B) Dr. Le: You must drink a lot of water every day. Ba: Yes, doctor. C) Mr. Nhat: Stop, please. That is too much coffee. Waitress: I’m sorry, sir. I’ll clean the table for you. D) Minh: Can you give me some paper, Nam? Nam: I’m sorry. I only have a little and I need it. - Call on some pairs to practice the dialogues. - Monitor and correct. too, either / so, neither - Get ss to practice the dialogues with their partners. - Have ss tell the similarity and differences between too/so/either/neither and their usage. Remember: + too / so / either / neither: dùng để bày tỏ sự đồng tình. + too / so: dùng sau lời nói khẳng định. + either / neither: dùng sau lời nói phủ định. + too / either: đứng cuối lời nói tương đồng. + so / neither: đứng đầu câu và có sự đảo ngữ. Make up the dialogues - Let ss work in pair to express their agreements, using the pictures and given cues on page 126. Pre teach vocabulary - ingredient (n): thành phần (explanation) - vinegar (n): giấm (visual) - teaspoonful (n): đầy thìa cà phê (translation) Gap filling - Ask ss to look at the pictures on page 128 and complete the instructions using the given words in the box. - Give feedback. - Have ss read the instructions again. * Answer keys: a) Peel the onions. b) Wash the cucumbers and the onions. c) Slice the cucumbers amd the onions. d) Mix the slices. e) Add a little salt, sugar and vinegar to the mixture. f) Stir the mixture. g) Wait for five minutes and the salad is ready to serve. - Let ss give the structure and usage of imperatives by themselves.
