 Read the information about Nga. Then write a paragraph about her.

Family: parents, older sister – Huong, younger brother - Thanh

LESSON 5: LANGUAGE FOCUS
I. OBJECTIVES:
Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to master the present and past simple tenses, talk about general truths in present, and master the attributive and predicative adjectives.

1. Warm – Up: (10’)
- Have students:
 Read the information about Nga. Then write a paragraph about her.

2. Exercises: (30’)
a/ Exercise 1: Tenses
- Have students review the usages of the present and past simple tenses.
l Present simple is used to describe: 
 + Permanent states.
 They live in Ho Chi Minh City now.
 + Regular/ repeated events.
 He gets up at 5 a.m every day.
 Trang usually watches T.V after dinner.
 + General truths.
 The Sun rises in the East.
 FTime expressions: always, usually, often; every day/month/year/
 l Past simple tense is used to describe:
 + completed actions in the past.
 Hoa lived in Ha Noi last year.
 Ngan was at school yesterday.
 FTime expressions: yesterday, ago, last night/ week/ month/ 
- Ask students to do the exercises in pairs: Complete the paragraphs. Use the correct form of the verbs in brackets.
b/ Exercise 2: Present simple tense
- Ask students some questions about the planets.
 ˜ How many planets are there in our solar system?
 ˜ What planets do you know?
- Explain the verbs in the box.
- Ask students to do the exercises in pairs.
- Check the answers and correct them.

- Ask students to practice the dialogue. 
c/ Exercise 3: Describing
- Ask students to look at the picture carefully and to describe it.
- Have students ask and answer the questions in pair.
 a. How many people are there in the picture?
 b. What does each person like?
 c. What is each person wearing?
- Supply students with some vocabulary: heavy-set, hold one’s head, carry a shoulder bag, across the street.
- Supply the correct answer.
a. There are four people in the picture.
b. The man standing near the taxi is tall and heavy – set. The woman is tall and thin. She has short hair. The boy sitting on the ground looks tired and worried. He is holding his head. And the man standing across the street is short and fat.
c. The man standing next to the taxi is wearing a yellow shirt and black trousers. The woman is wearing a green skirt and red blouse/shirt. She is carrying a shoulder bag. The boy is wearing blue shorts and a white shirt. The man standing across the street is wearing blue trousers, a pink shirt, and a brown tie. He is carrying a suitcase.
d/ Exercise 4:Enough
- Remind students of the structure: tobe (not) adjective + enough + to – infinitive.
- Have students complete the dialogues in pairs.
- Call students to give the answers, and correct them.
- Ask some pairs to practice the dialogues in front of the class.
3. Consolidation: (3’)
- Remind students of the languages they have just learnt.
4. Homework: (2’)
- Redo the exercises. 
- Exercises 6,7 / p.10,11 (workbook) 
- Prepare next lesson: Unit 2- Getting stared, Listen and Read/ p.18, 19.
- Write a paragraph.
- Listen and write.
- Pair works.
